A founding Director of Simpson Hilder Associates, Allan has over 35 years of experience having trained and practised as a Chartered Building Surveyor and Engineer in both private practice and with a number of local authorities, and in the academic field as Senior Lecturer and Course Director in Building Surveying at Southampton Solent University.
Allan leads the Building Surveying team, with specialisms in dilapidations, forensic fault diagnosis, structural surveys and delivery of refurbishment projects across a range of commercial and residential properties.
He has also been an examiner in building surveying subjects for the Institute of Rent Officers, the College of Estate Management at Reading University, Nottingham Trent University and Southampton Solent University, as well as an assessor for National Vocational Qualifications for the RICS. Allan speaks occasionally on the conference circuit on building surveying subjects and has been invited to speak at the Henry Stewart Annual London Structural Survey Conference on three occasions.
Allan is a committed road cyclist, a condition described by his wife Tracy as Cycling Obsession Disorder, and travels the world to tick off bucket list cycling challenges, and when not working or cycling shows the same enthusiasm for the consumption of fine wine and cheese.
