Bournemouth Crematorium

CLIENT: Bournemouth Borough Council
VALUE: £2m
COMPLETED: 2011

SHA were involved with works at Bournemouth Crematorium to provide a new plant room for housing mercury abatement equipment (following a directive from the EU concerning emissions from crematoria).

We were initially appointed directly by Bournemouth Borough Council, for whom we successfully gained planning permission for the construction of the new plant room, situated above the existing crematory and immediately adjacent to the east and west chapels of this architecturally important building. We were subsequently novated to the main contractor under a design and build procurement process, and the works were successfully undertaken without disruption to either services or cremations.

We are particularly proud of how well the finished plant room blends in with the original stone chapel buildings, achieved through the careful selection of materials and the attention to design and detailing.
